Springtime in Scotland

One of the nicest parks in Edinburgh is called The Meadows, and it's right next to the University of Edinburgh. It's basically a giant semicircle of green expanse divided up into several sections by tree-lined paved walkways. The park provides a much needed place for people, mostly students, to unwind in traditional collegiate fashions.

A bout of fortuitous warm weather and sunny skies has come over Edinburgh just as several students, my lovely wife included, have finished this semester's finals. As you might expect, The Meadows flooded with people laying out, having barbecues, playing football (both definitions apply), and generally unwinding.

When you're willing to lay out and sunbathe when it's only 65˚F, it's a sign you might be acclimated. In Louisiana, 65 is still cold. So yeah, we got some sun. Now I haven't been the outdoorsy type, but over the winter, it felt like being starved for sunlight. After being under perpetual overcast, whenever the sun comes out and actually warms something, it's miraculous.

So we went out into the warm sunshine and sat surrounded by frisbees and footballs, kids and canines, and it felt a bit like home. Here's hoping that when I get back, the real thing doesn't fry me like an egg.
