The Apple corporation is countering a bit of the "evil empire" karma with a move that puts technology where it's needed: education.
When the iPad 2 was released, Apple urged its customers to donate their old iPads to Teach for America, a program that sends recent college grads to teach in underprivileged areas. While the it's rewarding, many teachers say it's challenging work.

Geek.com reports that, thanks to Apple's trade-in initiative, each and every member of the Teach for America corps has now has a first-generation iPad. That's more than 9,000 teachers across 38 states. A refurbished 16 GB iPad from Apple's website will run you $299.00, so Apple has put over $2 million of potential earnings into this project.
While an iPad is not what most people would guess when thinking of classroom equipment, it has proven to be helpful to many teachers. Katie Remington, a teacher in a school in St. Louis, says that the iPad serves as incentive for the kids to finish their work early, so there is enough "iPad time" afterward.
