Ubisoft hunting for an Assassin's Creed historian

Ubisoft Montreal, the company behind the Assassin's Creed series, has painstakingly recreated cities like Jerusalem and Rome in-game (with some alterations for better platforming), and has included in-depth histories of landmarks that can be read at the player's leisure. It doesn't come as a shock that it would be searching for a historian, but what is surprising is the historian's desired specialty.

Ubisoft recently posted a job listing for a historian who specialized in the Assassin's Creed series mythos, not actual history. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an Assassin's Creed encyclopedia that will collect detailed explanations of virtually everything in the series' canon.

The IP stretches across multiple media, including console games, handheld games, an animated movie, a comic book mini-series, and even a live-action short film. Keeping every detail straight would prove to be a challenging task, even for the content's creators, hence the job offer.

Ideally, applicants should have extensive and accurate knowledge of the Assassins' Creed universe and the English writing skills to put it all down. A knowledge of both the real world historical events and the game versions will surely be helpful, although not absolutely necessary. Applicants will also need to prove themselves by submitting sample encyclopedia entries covering three topics of their choice.

This offer is something relatively new to the industry. Game encyclopedias have been released before, such as the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, but this job is a potential reward for one diehard fan. If you think you have what it takes, head over to Ubisoft's website and give it your all.

  1. It's neat that someone(s) could get paid for this...but have Ubisoft ever seen Wikipedia? For example: Fallout Wiki, The Vault, is so incredibly polished and dense that there's no way one person could have built it to where it is today. The community's efforts can, and often will, far surpass the efforts of a single person or group. The Assassin's Creed wiki isn't as good but perhaps Ubisoft is impatient, wants to publish something, or they just want it all written eloquently. If it's the latter then they wouldn't need to hire an 'expert', just a decent writer to rip off Wiki, neh?
